Grantee Case Study: InnerCity Weightlifting
Mission
Amplify the voice and agency of people who have been most impacted by systemic racism and mass incarceration. ICW isn’t simply about the impact on the people who participate in the program, it’s about the impact of ICW participants on society.
ACF Commitment
In Spring 2023, ACF awarded InnerCity Weightlifting a one-time grant of $7,500. The ACF Selection Committee was so impressed by their program and their work in the Boston community, that ICW was awarded a $50,000 multi-year grant in the Spring of 2024.

With ACF's help, InnerCity Weightlifting provided comprehensive case management for over 100 participants in Boston, setting personal, educational, and career goals.
ACF's grant also supported Student Trainers to provide personal training to more than 220 clients, leading more than 8,000 training sessions annually.
Careers with Meaning
I learned how to work out in prison where I spent most of my adult life. Finding out I could get paid for something I learned while incarcerated was mind-blowing. I take pride in knowing that I can share this knowledge with others while helping them with their mental and physical health. It’s a career; it’s a lifestyle; it’s a part of me.
